Cancer bus tour to visit Walsall to support early diagnosis and cancer awareness
Published on
A cancer awareness tour will visit Walsall in May as part of a wider Black Country programme aimed at helping residents spot the signs of cancer early and know when and how to seek help.
The bus will offer free, confidential advice and information about cancer symptoms, screening programmes and local health services, with a focus in Walsall on men’s health (including prostate health) and screening. Trained staff will be on hand to discuss concerns, answer questions and signpost people to appropriate support, with no appointment needed.
Early diagnosis is vital, as cancers can be more likely to be successfully treated when found at an early stage. The bus tour aims to make information easier to access, particularly for people who may not routinely engage with health services.
In Walsall, the bus will be located at Sainsbury’s Reedswood, WS2 8XA, on Thursday 7 May, from 10am to 4pm. This is open to anyone who would like information or advice.
The initiative is being delivered by NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board, working with local partners, to improve awareness of cancer symptoms and encourage uptake of screening and GP checks across the region.
“ The bus provides an opportunity for people to access information about cancer symptoms and screening in their local area. Staff are available to answer questions and signpost people to relevant services. Anyone who would like to find out more about screening programmes or ask questions is welcome to attend. “
Visitors attending the bus will also be able to find out more about NHS cancer screening programmes, including breast, bowel and cervical screening, and get practical advice on how to book appointments.
The cancer bus tour is one of several initiatives taking place across the Black Country to support better cancer outcomes and reduce health inequalities.
