The British Version Cafe Lounge opened in Old Birchills in August at the site of the old Rose & Crown Pub. Built in 1901, the pub had sat unused since the COVID-19 pandemic but is now back in community use.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Associate Leader of Walsall Council, congratulated the owners on all the work that been done on the project.

“ It was great to visit Cafe Lounge in the heart of Birchills.

“Anisa and the team have done a wonderful job bringing this building back into use while maintaining the old character.

“It would be great if locals could get behind the team and pop down for a drink and bite to eat to support this community cafe. “

The cafe is already proving a hit with locals and is open Tuesday to Thursday between noon to 8pm, Friday and Saturday until 9pm and Sunday until 5pm (Closed on Monday).

A warm and welcoming space has been created following months of renovation, but the charm of the old pub has not been lost.

“ We saw great potential in this building to make a community hub, a place where people can gather together and connect.

“We have tried to keep the historical character of the building and respect the history of the site.

“We have used sustainable materials throughout and made use of charity shops for some of the furnishings.

“I think anyone locally would really appreciate what we have done, and I encourage people to come and take a look for themselves. “
