Big switch-on for brand new Pelsall light display
Published on
A brand-new light display celebrating the diverse community of Pelsall will officially be switched on for the first time today (Friday 1 November).
‘Lighting Up Pelsall’, presented by the Preservation of Pelsall Remembrance Service (POPRS) and supported by Walsall Council, will bring together the community in an act of remembrance with a stunning red-light display.
The event, which is open to everyone, will start at 5pm and see Pelsall’s Clock Tower and Cenotaph lit up. The Leader of Walsall Council, Councillor Garry Perry, will be in attendance on the evening.
“ Lighting Up Pelsall is a true celebration of community spirit. We’ve got a fantastic programme of light displays planned for the year ahead, and what better way to start with an act of remembrance at tonight’s Big Switch On event?
“I am thrilled to be attending what promises to be a wonderful event for all. “
Future colour-changing displays will take place to represent key festivals and seasons, including Christmas and Diwali.
POPRS funded the project with the support of Walsall Council’s Crowdfund Walsall Programme. More than £11,000 was raised from 55 backers, which included a £5,000 pledge from the UK Shared Prosperity Programme.
The project seeks to create opportunities to bring the community together. POPRS intends to align the display with key events to create social opportunities and raise awareness of good causes.
Each time the lights change and are switched on, it will create the opportunity for charities and organisations to host community days and events, encouraging people to come together and socialise.
“ This project brings joy to the people and village of Pelsall. It supports our local traders and puts the village on the map. Join us behind the memorial gardens ready for 5pm. “
