Appointment for interim Walsall Council Chief Executive ratified in full Council meeting

The appointment of Deborah Hindson as Walsall Council’s Interim Chief Executive was ratified at a meeting of Full Council on Monday 9 January 2023.
Deborah will take up the position when Dr Helen Paterson leaves on Tuesday 7 February to become the new Chief Executive of Northumberland County Council. Deborah and Helen are working closely to ensure a smooth handover ahead of Helen’s departure.
Deborah has been Walsall Council’s Interim Executive Director of Resources and Transformation for almost 3 years. Deborah has 37 years of Local Government experience across a wide range of Local Authorities, with her key areas of interest being finance, housing, regeneration, enabling support services and community resilience.
Throughout her time at Walsall Council, Deborah has led the Proud transformation programme focusing on customers, improving staff engagement and delivering efficient services. She has focused on securing the long-term financial stability of the council, the use of technology and data insights and making sure that the council delivers for the residents and partners of Walsall.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Mike Bird, said; “Deborah has a great deal of Local Government experience across a wide range of councils, and I am delighted to welcome her as our Interim Chief Executive. I know that Deborah is very much looking forward to starting her new role and I am confident that the Council will be in very capable hands. I wish her all the best, and look forward to working with her.”
Deborah Hindson said; “I am delighted to be stepping into the role of Interim Chief Executive and I am excited for what the future holds. I will be sad to see Helen go; she has done a wonderful job here at Walsall Council these last five years and will most definitely be missed.”
Prior to joining Walsall Council, Deborah worked as an Interim Director of Finance and Procurement for Wiltshire Council, as Executive Director Financial Sustainability, Director of Finance and Managing Director OneSource for the London Borough of Newham and has previously worked at the London Development Agency, Redbridge Waltham Forest and Hackney London Borough Councils.
