61 Fixed Penalty Notices Issued by Walsall Council in Anti-Fly-Tipping Effort
Published on
In the past six weeks, Walsall Council has issued 61 Fixed Penalty Notices for environmental offences.
Walsall Council continues its dedicated efforts to tackle environmental violations. Over the past six weeks, the council has issued six Fixed Penalty Notices for fly-tipping, with two offenders already having paid their fines. In addition, the council has served 55 Fixed Penalty Notices for littering, of which 32 fines have been settled. Should the remaining fines remain unpaid within the 14-day notice period, the council will commence legal proceedings to address these matters in court.
One notable incident occurred on Forge Street, Wednesbury, where the council’s community protection officers caught an individual dumping furniture on CCTV in broad daylight. This resulted in a £400 Fixed Penalty Notice, issued on Tuesday, 10 September 2024.
Another case involved two separate incidents of fly-tipping on Ross Road, Coal Pool. In the first incident, an individual discarded a fridge; a month later, another person disposed of a car boot full of cardboard. Both offenders were captured by Walsall Council on CCTV and were each served £400 fines on Friday, 20 August 2024.
“ These fines serve as examples of what happens when you get caught fly-tipping in Walsall.
We have a zero-tolerance approach for individuals who tarnish our community, especially when we have Household Waste Recycling Centres, free for residents to use, and offer bulky waste collection services.
There are ample means to dispose of waste responsibly in Walsall, so those who still choose to fly-tip will be prosecuted.
“
Many instances of illegal dumping could have easily been avoided. Walsall boasts two Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) that are free to use: Fryers Road, Bloxwich, and Merchants Way, Aldridge.
The council also offers a bulky items collection service for residents who may struggle to transport larger items to a recycling centre. This service can be booked through the council's website.
Additionally, residents facing challenges in managing their household waste, such as those with growing families or ongoing medical conditions, can apply for a larger bin through the council’s website.
These services, available for free or at a low cost, ensure that waste is disposed of legally, protecting the environment for everyone.
Residents are encouraged to play their part in the fight against fly-tipping by reporting incidents quickly and easily on the council's website: https://go.walsall.gov.uk/apply/myaccount-online-services/report-fly-tip, or by calling 01922 653355
