Direct payments

Personal Budgets and Direct Payments

People who have been assessed as having eligible needs for social care support within the community from their local council – in this case by Walsall Council, must receive a personal budget.

What is a personal budget?

A personal budget is the amount of money the council has allocated to meet your identified needs and agreed outcomes following a care and support assessment.

How can you use your Personal Budget?

  • The council can manage your personal budget and choose your care services on your behalf. This is known as a managed account.
  • You can use part or all of your personal budget as a Direct Payment.
  • Alternatively, a combination of both of the above. This is known as a mixed package.

What is a Direct Payment?

Direct payments are monetary payments to help promote independence, choice and control. These payments are made directly to a person (or someone on their behalf) if agreed by Walsall Council.

Direct payments can be used in a wide range of creative ways as long as it is safe and legal to do so.

A range of information relating to direct payments will be available through the Walsall Community Living Directory.

Information is available by contacting a Direct Payment Support Service who will provide advice, guidance and support on direct payments.  The council have commissioned the organisations below to provide support to direct payment recipients.
