Personal budgets and direct payments

People who have been assessed as having eligible needs for social care support within the community from their local council must receive a personal budget.

What is a personal budget?

A personal budget is the amount of money we allocate to meet your identified needs and agreed outcomes following a care and support assessment.  

  • We can manage your personal budget and choose your care services on your behalf. This is known as a managed account.
  • You can use part or all of your personal budget as a direct payment.
  • Alternatively, a combination of both of the above. This is known as a mixed package.

What is a direct payment?

Direct payments are monetary payments to help promote independence, choice and control. These payments are made directly to a person (or someone on their behalf) if agreed by Walsall Council.   

Direct payments can be used in a wide range of creative ways as long as it is safe and legal to do so.
