Provision overview
HEAL (Horizon Education Alternative Learning) offers a bespoke education service to children and young people who have been unable to succeed in mainstream education settings. HEAL comprises a team of experienced specialist SEMH and SEND teachers and practitioners. All HEAL staff are trained in trauma informed approaches which remains central to everything we do. Our most favoured packages purchased by commissioning teams are the 10 or 15 hours with 1:1 support. Costings can be provided separately. We do have a 2:1 option available and costings for this can be provided if required. HEAL offers a variety of bespoke packages for young people aged between 7 and 19. The aims and outcomes of the programme vary and might include the following: Reengagement with education: Many young people are placed on the HEAL programme as an interim measure with a view to preparing these students to return to full time education. HEAL teachers work hard to engage these students and help them to restart their learning journey and become prepared for school. Closing educational gaps: HEAL works with all stake holders around the child to ensure that the appropriate bespoke curriculum programme in put in place. HEAL works with students to take appropriate qualifications as required. Transition back to school: HEAL will collaborate closely with the young person's chosen destination school to ensure a smooth transition. Specialist teaching staff will accompany the young person to the new educational setting for as long as needed. Working with children with significant school phobia / anxiety: Specialist teaching staff use trauma informed approaches to help students overcome their anxieties and other barriers to learning. Sessions will take place in a safe space for the student to increase the chances of success. Enabling students with significant SEND to make academic and social progress. Highly bespoke programmes to cater for children with communication needs, issues with cognition, SEMH, sensory or physical needs. The individualised programme could include a bespoke sensory diet, a tailored communication and interaction intervention, catch up literacy, numeracy or social communication intervention etc. Helping to prepare students for adulthood. HEAL teaching staff work with students to help them gain independence. Working with post 16 and post 18 providers to help students prepare for adulthood. Working with students to choose career options and to help them on the path to achieve their goals. Remote or hybrid learning programmes. We can offer specialist teaching via Google Classroom or Teams. Remote learning is the preferred option for those students who have difficulty with face-to-face learning. They might have extreme difficulties with sleeping, organisation or might struggle with proximity. Although HEAL is not a DFE registered setting we adopt the policies and practices of a school in order to strive for the very best outcomes for our students.
