The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) launched on 1 December 2012 and was formed from the merger of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).
The role of the DBS is to help employers in England and Wales make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups including children.
The DBS was established under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and carries out the functions previously undertaken by the CRB and ISA.
As a result of this merge a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check is referred to as a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
The HR DBS Team at Walsall Council operates an Umbrella Body Service. This is an online application service that helps prevent delays, eliminates disclosure application data errors and reduces administration for all organisations that are eligible to undertake security checks of those working for them, ensuring that their customers are safeguarded. The HR team has the experience to provide you with support and guidance at every stage of the DBS process.

If you would like to use this service, please complete and return the registration form below. Upon receipt you will be provided with a link to the online learning package for online DBS processing which has been devised to assist you in using the system. Once you have completed this process we will provide you with access to the online system to begin submitting, tracking and viewing disclosures.
