Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass is a safeguarding partnership between the police and schools. It enables schools to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse.
Domestic abuse has been identified as an adverse childhood experience and can lead to emotional, physical and psychological harm.
You can find further information on Operation Encompass website.
Walsall Early Help supports Operation Encompass and information sharing between police and schools.
Rapid provision of support within the school environment means children are better safeguarded against the short, medium and long-term effects of domestic abuse.

We thank schools for their continued support and agreement to the Operation Encompass process.
A school that is designated and signed up to Operation Encompass will improve the wellbeing of children and contribute towards the safeguarding of a child.
Support and advice can be obtained from the local partners on any matter arising from a notification.
As outlined in the training for DSLs and DDSLs, all named staff must watch the Operation Encompass training video and read the Joint Agency Protocol.
There is also a clear statement that if a child or family come to harm or potential harm due to a school’s action because:
- the school has not viewed the training
- the school has not read and absorbed the revised Operational Encompass protocol
the Local Authority will refer concerns to the school’s causing concerns procedures.
If you need to access the Operation Encompass training video for new school staff or as a refresher, please email us.
