Your life, your voice: Real talk, real change
What's it all about?
They're meetings with social workers, carers, teachers, or other important adults, where decisions about your care, education, and health are made. These regular meetings focus on your care plan, and your participation is important. Your IRO will take notes, and you will receive a summary letter of your care plan.
Who comes to the reviews?
The review is led by your Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) and should include:
- you and your carer
- people that are important to you, such as your parents and/or family members
- social worker
- education
- health
- an advocate (If you want one)
Where will it take place?
It is important that the review takes place where you feel comfortable. This can be discussed with your IRO or Social Worker beforehand. Reviews can take place where you are living, at your school or at Family Centres.
How you can get involved
- Ask your social worker, IRO or someone you trust to help you think about any questions that you want to ask
- Write down what you want to say, speak to a trusted adult, or ask for an advocate
- Bring a trusted adult with you to help you share your views, and to help you understand what's going on
- You can come to some, or all of the meeting—it's your meeting, you get to choose
The benefits for you
- You get to hear what's going on in your life
- It stops people guessing what you think
- It can help you build your confidence in speaking up for yourself and sharing what you want
“You deserve a say, it is one of your rights to be heard and to be informed”
