ID for care leavers

When you leave the care of the Walsall Council you should, where relevant, be offered:

  • a passport (including your first adult passport if your child passport expires after your 18th birthday)
  • a provisional driving licence
  • your birth certificate

If there’s a reason you can’t get a passport or driving licence (for example, immigration status or restrictions), we’ll provide you with a CitizenCard or another form of photo ID.

Proof of your care leaver status

We can send you a formal letter confirming your care leaver status. Ask your PA to arrange this.

The letter can be used as evidence of your rights and entitlements, such as additional care leaver bursary from your college or university.
