Health protection

Protecting Walsall residents from infectious diseases and environmental health hazards

Health protection in Walsall means:

  • making sure our food, water, air, and surroundings are safe and clean
  • stopping the spread of illnesses that can pass from one person to another
  • taking action when there are problems that could affect people’s health

We want to keep our residents healthy and safe. We work with experts from the NHS, UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), and other local services to deal with health problems quickly and effectively.

We give advice and support to stop and manage disease outbreaks in places like schools, care homes, and community facilities. We:

  • help control infections
  • check care homes to make sure they follow safety rules
  • support with healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs)

We also share important health messages about:

  • getting health checks and vaccines
  • antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
  • infection prevention and control
  • staying well in hot or cold weather

We work with others to tackle issues like tuberculosis (TB) and air pollution.
