Council Tax proposal

Approximately 20% of the council's income comes from council tax. Most properties in the borough are in bands A and B.

The Government’s funding decisions assume that councils like ours will increase council tax next year by 2.99% plus a further 2% earmarked for adult social care. If we don’t increase our council tax by 4.99% we would have to find another £8.2 million of savings.

The table below illustrates the impact of a 4.99% council tax increase in line with Government’s funding assumptions.

We will not make a formal decision about council tax until the final budget is approved by Council on 26 February 2026.
