Walsall residents encouraged to get active with Move Your Way campaign
Published on
Residents across Walsall are being encouraged to find simple ways to get moving this summer as Walsall Council supports the We Are Undefeatable – Move Your Way campaign.
The national campaign, developed by a coalition of leading health and social care charities and backed by Sport England, encourages people living with long-term health conditions to be active in ways that work for them.
One in four people in England live with a long-term health condition and many face barriers to being active, including pain, fatigue and the unpredictable nature of their condition.
Throughout the summer, Walsall Council, working as part of the Walsall Together partnership, is highlighting opportunities for residents to be more active in ways that fit into everyday life. The campaign is also supported by Active Black Country.
Across Walsall, partners are working together to make it easier for people to be active as part of everyday life. Whether it is walking to local destinations, enjoying parks and green spaces, taking part in community activities or accessing leisure opportunities, residents are encouraged to find activities that suit their interests, abilities and routines.
Activities include walking groups and opportunities to explore local green spaces led by the council’s Healthy Spaces team, swimming and aqua activities at the leisure centres, cycling and active travel opportunities and a range of community-based activities. Residents can access a range of opportunities and support through the Walsall Wellbeing Directory.
“ Being active doesn't have to mean intense exercise or spending hours at the gym. We want residents to know that even small amounts of movement can make a difference to how they feel.
Whether it's a stroll around your local park, a gentle swim at our leisure centres, a bike ride along our cycling routes, walking your children or grandchildren to and from school or taking part in a community activity, there are lots of ways to move more in a way that works for you.
The We Are Undefeatable campaign is about encouraging people to find activities they enjoy and helping them build movement into everyday life. “
“ Even a small amount of movement can make a real difference to your health. It can reduce your risk of developing conditions like diabetes and dementia, and if you're already living with a health condition, it's never too late to benefit. Following illnesses such as cancer or a heart attack, gentle exercise, guided by healthcare professionals, can help you recover, feel stronger and improve your overall wellbeing. “
“ This summer, We Are Undefeatable wants to reframe what movement looks like for people with long-term health conditions, encouraging them to find everyday moves that work for them and embrace small, feel-good ways to get active. We’re delighted to see how Walsall is making the campaign its own and showcasing ways to get moving in the local area, and we look forward to continuing our collaborative working with partners in Walsall. “
The campaign will be promoted across council and partner social media channels throughout the summer, sharing tips, inspiration and information about local opportunities to help residents move more and feel better.
