Accessible voting

Support at polling stations

We want everyone to be able to vote.

All polling stations are accessible for wheelchair users. We provide ramps where needed.

At every polling station, you can find:

  • magnifiers
  • pencil grips
  • highlighted ballot box slots
  • tactile voting devices
  • voting booths that wheelchair users can use
  • large print ballot papers
  • audio versions of the ballot paper

You can also bring your own equipment, such as a text-to-speech app.

Help to vote

If you need help to vote, you can bring someone with you. They must be aged 18 or over and will need to complete a form.

The Presiding Officer can also help you. They are legally bound to keep your vote private.

Ask for extra support

If you need a reasonable adjustment or extra support at your polling station, contact us before the election. Please get in touch as early as possible so we have time to look at your request and reply.

Other ways to vote

If you can’t get to a polling station, or don’t want to vote in person, you can vote by post or by proxy.

Vote by post

We’ll send you a postal voting pack. You can complete your ballot paper at home and return it by post.

If you can’t sign your name, or your signature changes, you can apply for a signature waiver.

Vote by proxy

A proxy vote lets someone you trust vote on your behalf.

If you’re disabled, you may be able to apply for a long-term proxy vote. Find out more on the Electoral Commission's website (opens in new tab).
