Spring into action this April with a range of activities available for crafters, lovers of live music, and art enthusiasts at Walsall’s leisure attractions.

The New Art Gallery Walsall

Jaskirt Dhaliwal-Boora: Fractured Landscapes and how we heal*

Throughout April - Free admission

This exhibition focuses on the role that nature and creativity can play in healing from trauma, particularly in the context of male violence and abuse against women and girls (VAWG). New photographic work by Jaskirt Dhaliwal-Boora will feature alongside works created by women from four refuges across the country, each working with a lead artist to inspire and encourage them.

*The project has been supported by an Arts Council England Project Grant with further support from Open Eye Gallery, Photo Fringe and Peter Marlow Foundation.

Billy Dosanjh: Paths You Walk

Throughout April - Free admission                                             

Billy Dosanjh’s artistic practice uncovers silenced histories of migration, displacement, and industrial exploitation and is rooted in his upbringing and the de-industrialised landscapes of the Black Country.

Reimagining Industrial Migratory Stories CIC received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant for an exciting project, Paths You Walk, based in Walsall. Billy Dosanjh has produced a series of cinematic moving-image works and heritage-based photographs reimagining local South Asian narratives with participants and organisations from the Walsall community. 

Vaisakhi

Saturday 25 April, 12pm-4pm. Free admission, drop-in.

Join the team to celebrate Vaisakhi, the birth of Khalsa and Harvest time in India, and learn about the bravery and the great achievements of Sikh Women, like Mai Bhago. Activities include:

  • Sikh women art display
  • Live music with authentic Indian instruments
  • Bhangra dancing
  • Live poetry and singing by Gobind Sarvar Gurmat School
  • Hear of the great work by Midland Langar Seva Society here and abroad
  • Mehndi by Mrs Bedi
  • Art workshop with artist Daya Bhatti, celebrating Sikh women in Sikhi
  • Quiz with prizes

Sunday Art Club

12pm-3pm. Free admission, drop-in sessions. Ages four years old and above.

  • Sunday 5 April – please note the Gallery will be closed on Easter Sunday (Sunday 5 April).
  • Sunday 12 April – Nature Paper Craft – manipulate paper with cuts, folds and curls to create stunning 3D artworks.
  • Sunday 19 April – Decoupage Chickens – stick colourful paper and tissue to design a decoupage Spring Chicken.
  • Sunday 26 April – Bird Bunting – string up a fabulous flock of colourful birds.

Funny Bunny Hand Puppets

Join artist and potter, Kate Tilley as she leads another of her popular drop-in pottery sessions. Kate will be helping our young visitors to create their own pottery sheep.
