The new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) is situated on Middlemore Lane, Aldridge, and is a state-of-art facility which will serve the borough for years to come.

The site is also home to a Waste Transfer Station (WTS), where waste is sorted and prepared for transport to recycling and disposal facilities. This has been operational since Monday January 5, 2026.

The £32 million project marks a major step forward in modernising the borough’s waste services and is an active step forward in the borough's 2040 vision to create a cleaner and greener Walsall for all.

Middlemore Lane will provide residents with easy-to-use facilities to recycle a wider range of materials, with 38 different skips across 19 bays.

The new site will be open to Walsall residents 7 days a week from Monday 2 February 2026. Proof of residence is required to make use of the site.

Opening times:

Monday – 9am to 5pm

Tuesday – 10am to 6pm

Wednesday – 9am to 5pm

Thursday – 8am to 4pm

Friday – 9am to 5pm

Saturday – 9am to 5pm

Sunday – 9am to 5pm

A dedicated reuse shop will also operate on site, giving new life to items that might otherwise have been thrown away. Staff will be able to upcycle and repair items at an on-site workshop, to prepare furniture and household goods into safe and useable condition to be sold at a low cost to residents.

For the first two weeks of opening from February 2, the reuse shop will open between 10am and 2pm on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, before aligning with the HWRC opening hours.

“ This project is a huge development for Walsall. What has been delivered here is the definition of ‘state-of-the-art'.

“The site will prove vital in ensuring we can continue to accommodate the waste demands we face in the borough. Our current facilities have served us well, but now is time for a new era, where we recycle and reuse more of our waste. “

Councillor Suky Samra, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene

Merchants Way Household Waste Recycling Centre, situated approximately half a mile from Middlemore Lane, will cease operation from Sunday 1 February.

Fryers Road Household Waste Recycling Centre, situated in Bloxwich, remains open to residents ahead of planned redevelopment, details of which will follow.
