You can view the full list of candidates on the council website.

This year, all 60 council seats in the borough are being contested in what is known as an all out election. This is due to a recent review by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE), which has introduced new ward boundaries and, in some cases, new ward names. Every seat must be re-elected at the same time to avoid councillors serving on old and new boundaries simultaneously. After this election, Walsall will return to electing by thirds.

“ This year, we’ve seen 282 candidates put themselves forward for Walsall’s Local Elections. With updated ward boundaries, some polling stations moving, and voters able to choose up to three candidates, the 2026 elections may feel different for many residents.

“I’d encourage everyone who is eligible to make sure they’re registered to vote. It takes just a few minutes, but it means you can have your say on the decisions that affect your community. If you’ve recently turned 18 or moved home, please check your details now so you’re ready to vote on Thursday 7 May. “

Emma Bennett, Returning Officer and Chief Executive
Walsall Council

Walsall Borough continues to have 20 wards, each represented by three councillors. Electors can vote for up to three candidates on their ballot paper. The candidate with the highest number of votes will serve a four-year term, the second-placed candidate a two-year term, and the third-placed candidate a one-year term. This system allows the council to return to its usual electoral cycle.
