Local, Police and Crime Commissioner and Combined Authority Mayoral Elections 2021
The local, West Midlands Combined Authority Mayoral (WMCA) and Police and Crime Commissioner elections that were due to take place in May 2020 will now go ahead on Thursday May 6 2021.
This election is your opportunity to elect your ward councillor, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (WMPCC) and West Midlands Combined Authority Mayor (WMCA).
Details about candidates for all elections will be on the ballot paper. We will also provide further information about those standing for election in April.
If you haven’t registered to vote, you will need to do so before midnight on Monday 19 April 2021 and can find out how here.

The deadline for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 20 April 2021. If you have already registered to vote by post you should receive 3 ballot papers soon. Postal ballots are only sent out once the deadline to become a candidate has passed. Time is then needed to create and print the ballot papers. You will normally get your ballot papers between 5 to 11 days before the election date.

Information for prospective candidates
If you are interested in standing as a candidate in the 2021 local elections, we have included some important information below.
You can find out more information about standing as a candidate if you visit the Electoral Commission website.
We’ll do everything to make sure that polling stations are COVID-19 secure and people stay safe.
You will see many of the measures used in public spaces in recent months in our polling stations. They will include, hand sanitiser and floor markings to help maintain social distancing. Mandatory use of face coverings will be in place unless you are medically exempt. We also recommend bringing your own pencil or pen to minimise the risk of contact transmission.
What if I am self isolating?
Guidance about what to do if you need to self isolate or the area where you live is in lockdown on the day of the election is currently in development. We will provide more information as and when it becomes available.
If you have concerns regarding electoral malpractice you will be required to complete the reporting form. Please return the completed form to the Returning Officer, Electoral Services Office, Council House, Lichfield Street, Walsall, WS1 1AE. The Returning Officer will then investigate the complaint and forward to the Police if necessary.
