What is the Willenhall Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI)?

The Willenhall Townscape Heritage Initiative has now come to a close.  The 5 year initiative was funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, VIEW (Visionary Investment Enhancing Walsall) and Walsall Council.  It provided grant aid towards the cost of repairing, restoring and reusing historic properties.

Results of the THI

  • 16 projects were awarded grant funding for the repair or restoration of traditional architectural features.
  • Over £1.3 million spent on the properties using a combination of grant funding and the property owners' contributions.
  • Enhancement and regeneration of key buildings in Willenhall's historic town centre making the town a more attractive place for people to live, work and visit.
  • Traditional local materials and construction methods used.
  • Local schools involved in workshops to investigate Willenhall's heritage.  The results of which informed the heritage trail.
  • Increased awareness of the importance of property maintenance.
