Performance tables

The achievement and attainments of all schools are published by the Department for Education and Skills.  The tables list the national curriculum results for each school in England and compares them with other schools.  Four tables are published annually:

  • Key stage 2 test results in state schools - England (primary schools)
  • Key stage 3 test results in state schools - England (secondary schools)
  • GCSE's and equivalent, and other vocational qualifications (secondary schools)
  • Post 16 results in general and vocational AS and A levels, Key Skills at level 3, Advanced Extension Awards, other advanced vocational qualifications and intermediate vocational qualifications

Care should be taken when comparing schools by performance tables alone, as they are only one aspect of the school and there could be a variety of reasons why these differ from school to school.

Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education) inspects each school at least once every six years.  These inspections consider the standard of teaching and pupil achievement.  A copy of each school's report is available from their website.
