Walsall Schools re-opening

5 January 2020: This information has been updated in line with the government announcement. Schools to remain open for vulnerable children and children of critical workers. All other children will learn remotely until February half term.

The borough remains in Tier 4 with increasing numbers of people testing positive for COVID-19 and therefore residents need to continue to follow the basics to stop the spread of the virus (Hands, Face, Space). The council understands some of the recent concerns of head teachers and principals, school staff and parents about the re-opening of schools, however the current national guidance states that primary schools, early years settings, special schools and alternative provision settings in the borough can re-open as planned from today, 4 January.

Continuing to support young people through COVID at Christmas

Continuing to support young people through COVID at Christmas

This year has been a tough one for children and families – since March 2020 the COVID world has meant adapting to uncertainty at speed and saying goodbye to certain routines and structures that help young people navigate their world. Normally the lead up to Christmas would be a fun and exciting time for children and young people. This year the pandemic and its various challenges mean youngsters are swapping previous freedoms and festive fun, for social distancing and specific yuletide restrictions instead.  Although a break away from school is welcomed, over the Christmas holidays children and young people will again have to get used to a new routine outside of school adjusting to different hours  and  different days. So it’s understandable if they are feeling more tired or under stress than usual.
