At its meeting on Wednesday 20 March, Walsall Cabinet approved raising levels of a raft of fixed penalty notices relating to environmental crimes such as littering, fly-posting, graffiti and Household Waste Duty of Care offences.
From Monday 1 April, both of the ‘tips’ – Household Waste Recycling Centres - in Walsall will be open every day of the week and each site will also be open late one night per week.
The trial, set to run until 30 June, is the last in a series of three trials being implemented by Walsall Council’s Cabinet to try to drive down the blight of fly-tipping in the borough.
Each ‘tip’ will be open from 8am to 6pm six days a week and open from 10am to 8pm on Tuesdays at Merchants Way and Thursdays at the Fryers Road site.
The Stonegate and Trent Park estates are proposed to be taken off the list of ‘contaminated land’ in the Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council area.
The move comes after further environmental investigations ordered by the Council, following the result of a Public Inquiry
The estate, built in the 1970s on the site of the former Willenhall Gasworks, was formally designated as contaminated by the Council in 2012.
