If your household has been affected by COVID-19 resulting in a loss, or reduction in earnings/income that affects your ability to pay your household bills - you may be eligible to apply for the government’s Winter Grant Scheme. The grant is designed to provide Walsall families as well as some others with extra support this winter, so vulnerable households do not go hungry, or without essential utilities.
Payments are made to those families in receipt of Council Tax reduction. The Council Tax Reduction scheme provides support towards Council Tax payments for families on a low income. If you meet the criteria, you will have already received a letter from the council earlier this month asking you to apply, if you have not done so already you can apply here: https://www.grantapproval.co.uk/
Once your application is confirmed Walsall Council will make your payment to you direct, via a bank transfer, so no action is required. Any residents who have not already registered their bank details were also written to on the 10th December, and we asked them to upload their details onto a secure portal so that their payments can be made.

We know that this year has been tough on many Walsall families and individuals. To help those who need it most the council has been working closely with its voluntary sector partners. Walsall Community Network, Food Banks and other VCS organisations can provide COVID-secure support and advice as well essential parcels. These organisations can help you access food banks, medical deliveries for those that need it as well for those who are shielding.
