The Revenues Team at Walsall Council has scooped two major awards at the recent IRRV (Institute of Revenues, Rating & Valuation) Annual Performance Awards. The Institute is the national professional body for local taxation, benefits and valuation. It promotes best practice for members working in government and commerce and supports their professional activities.At the 07 October Telford event, Revenues won ‘Team of the Year’ and ‘Excellence in Innovation’ Awards. They were also ‘highly commended’ in the category of ‘Excellence in Partnership Working’.
Local Authority and wider competition for the coveted ‘Revenues Team of the Year' is fierce. This year the Awards Panel were looking for organisations to demonstrate that they had raised their service standards to achieve high levels of performance in customer satisfaction and revenue procedures - and this must be evidenced. For the second Award; ‘Excellence in Innovation', the Revenues team had demonstrated outstanding skills in projects, products and procedures.
2020 - 2021 has been a challenging period for all local authorities and many government officers have worked around the clock to deliver essential services during the lockdown period. The Awards judges singled out Walsall Council Revenues team out for praise – crediting their flexibility during the COVID 19 and reactive and resilient ‘can do’ attitude. These mobilisation skills during lockdown and beyond, saw them quickly setting up and delivering a range of essential grants and benefits to businesses and customers all across the borough. At the height of the Pandemic, they were accessible and readily available to support and advise customers who were anxious about their finances.

“During the uncertainty of the Pandemic, as well as the borough having to adjust to lockdown, furloughs, job losses, Revenues has worked tirelessly and under considerable pressure - to make sure that Walsall was advised and supported. They upskilled quickly to put customer needs at the heart of their service, making sure that new claims for emergency grants and benefits were explained and administered, and that essential council revenues were still collected."
