Changes to COVID rules in response to Omicron variant

As announced by the Prime Minister on Saturday, a new COVID variant — Omicron — has been identified.  New temporary and precautionary measures come into force from 4.00am tomorrow (30 November).  

Wearing face coverings in shops and other settings such as banks, post offices and hairdressers and on public transport will be compulsory. All arrivals into the country will need to take a day two PCR test and self-isolate until they receive a negative test result.

In Walsall, visitors to council facilities will be strongly encouraged to wear face coverings, unless exempt. This includes venues such as the New Art Gallery and Active Living Centres.
