Chilli Peppers restaurant in Willenhall came under new management in March 2017 and since then the business has not let the grass grow under its feet. In a short time it has increased its food hygiene rating up to a sparkling top 5 and gained a faithful new following. Topping this list of achievements is a recent Gold Switch Health Award from Walsall Council.
It’s the first ’Gold’ to be given to an Indian restaurant in Walsall for its approach to producing healthier meals and business manager Jay Miah is delighted. Jay Miah, Manager of Chilli Peppers, said: "I am thrilled with our Gold Award. As a professional chef for eleven years, I have always been conscious about providing customers with the highest quality food that is cooked in the healthiest way. The first easy steps to do this are to drastically reduce oil and salt. I promise you the food still tastes great and is much better for you." The restaurant head chef religiously follows the less salt and oil principle and customers agree that all the familiar and popular dishes still zing. Low fat yogurt is used in a number of meals and starters and for those customers who enjoy a smaller portion - there’s the option of a side dish as a main. Wholemeal chapattis are on the menu and free salad is always offered with every meal. The signature salad comes without salt, but with carrots, onions and cucumber is popular and light. Tandoori dishes are cooked to perfection in a traditional clay oven with no oil at all, but still taste wonderful. Meals can also be served with a healthy extra of boiled rice, green salad and raita which includes cucumbers and tomatoes which contributes to one your ‘five a day’.
Jay added: “The Health Switch Award team also helped by giving suggestions on how to promote these new options. Our updated menus include the Health Switch logo and the “Healthier Options” we offer. All of these choices are advertised in the waiting area.”
“Recently, we gained a ‘Highly Commended Award' in the Indian Restaurant category at Best of Walsall Business 2018. Customers are really happy with the changes and we welcome you to call in and try our great tasting food.”
Informed choices are always good. Check out the hygiene ratings of your local takeaway, too. Chilli Peppers is graded ’five’ which is the highest level of cleanliness on the chart. Hygiene Ratings are usually displayed in business shop window, or should be clearly visible inside.
