From 1 April 2018 the opening hours at Walsall’s two Household Waste Recycling Centres (tips) will change to better meet the needs of residents. The sites will open from 8am to 6pm during the summer months (April – October) and 9am to 4pm during the winter months (November – March).

Usage of the sites has been analysed and it showed that there are different patterns of use at different times of the year. During the spring and summer months there are often people waiting to tip their rubbish at the current 5pm closing time, but the sites are very quiet after 4pm during the dark winter evenings.

Mark Holden, Head of Clean and Green said: “By extending the summer hours and shortening the winter hours we can improve the service offered to residents by ensuring they can access the sites at a more convenient time and at no extra cost. Also, during busy bank holiday periods, such as Easter and Christmas, we will be opening both sites for seven days a week to cope with the extra demand at these times. It’s clear that residents value the facilities and use them well, as the recycling rates are currently standing at an impressive 58% at Fryers Road and 66% at Merchants Way.”

The sites are free of charge for residents to dispose of their household waste. Please note, the Fryers Road recycling centre is closed on Thursdays and Fridays. The Merchants Way recycling Centre is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Strictly no trade or business waste is permitted on the sites.
