Walsall Council can confirm that its current household waste collections for grey and green bins will continue to operate normally during the current lockdown. Both household waste and recycling centres (HWRCs) at Merchants Way, Aldridge and Fryers Road Bloxwich will remain open seven days a week during the second lockdown period, starting 5 November. Visitors to these facilities must continue to wear protective face coverings at all times whilst on site and follow the existing social distancing measures.
Councillor Oliver Butler, Portfolio Holder for Clean and Green, said:
“Continuing to deliver the front line services that are most important to our residents is our absolute priority and householders can be confident that their bins will continue to be collected during this latest lockdown period. During this second lockdown and whilst we continue to provide an effective waste collection service for everyone in Walsall, we would greatly appreciate your co-operation in following the COVID procedures around safe household waste disposal.
"Walsall’s household waste and recycling centres will also remain open seven days per week and each site will still have late night opening on one day per week.
“Residents should continue to adhere to the Hands, Face, Space message both generally and when visiting our HWRCs. We would therefore ask that residents wash their hands both before and after visiting the tips, wear their masks and respect social distancing.”
Additional brown bin collection
“I can also confirm that an additional brown bin collection date for garden waste is planned at the end of the current advertised collection schedule as a thank you to all our residents whose brown bin collections were suspended during the first spring lockdown. Each household can present their brown bin for one further collection on their usual collection day, two weeks after the last one scheduled on their current printed Garden Waste leaflet.
“It is fair to say we have all learnt a lot and adapted following the first lockdown and this in conjunction with the much wider availability of COVID-19 testing means that we are now much better placed to continue operating our services. This means that at the current time we will still be operating our bulky collection service, picking litter, clearing leaves, removing fly tips, sweeping the streets and looking after our many valuable parks and open spaces as we continue to make Walsall and cleaner and greener for residents.
“We thank you for your continued patience.”
