On 10 February, Walsall Council's Cabinet will consider a proposal to provide a transit site to support the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community. The proposed location would facilitate the Council’s offer to transient communities and provide a more effective response to unauthorised encampments in the borough.

Cabinet will hear of a proposal for a temporary site that will be managed by the local authority. This will allow the Council the opportunity to assess the effectiveness of transit provision and allow it time to determine the best approach, for all communities, in the longer term.

The Council is working closely with Public Health England and the national NHS Track and Trace team to support measures to curb any potential spread of this variant; this will include significantly increasing the testing offer in a targeted and intelligence-led way.
