Council Support for Market Traders

The council has agreed that any Market Trader who is required to self-isolate for 14 days due to the coronavirus will not have to pay any rent during the 14 day period.

Additionally, it has been agreed that all rents will be reduced by 50% for up to 3 months from today, with a monthly review.

The measures cover the markets in Walsall, willenhall and Bloxwich.

The action follows the recent announcement by the UK Government of support packages for businesses in the form of loans and grants.

Speaking about the move, Deputy Leader of Walsall Council, Cllr Adrian Andrew said:

“Markets are at the heart of our communities and we will do all we can to support them during this difficult time. I want to see our markets thrive and I hope that the reduced rent will attract new traders. Our markets are open, it’s now up to the people of Walsall to support local businesses.”

Anyone wishing to discuss setting up a stall can search ‘markets’ on the council website or contact the team directly by email or call 01922 652300.
