Walsall Council explains how it will ‘reopen’ high streets

Following recent announcements by central government around the reopening of markets and non-essential retail outlets, council officers have been hard at work assessing how this can be done as safely as possible.

As lock down restrictions ease, the council has been working with colleagues from Transport for West Midlands and West Midlands Police to plan how we can support traders and the business community and enable safe trading in public spaces across the borough.

Council operated markets - phased re-opening planned from 12 June with social distancing measures in place

In line with the government’s recent easing of certain restrictions, we are introducing a phased re-opening of our markets that will start in Walsall Town centre from Friday 12 June 2020. Protecting Walsall shoppers and traders is of paramount importance. Future market trading will be in line with industry guidance from the National Association for British Market Authorities (NABMA) and will include appropriate social distancing measures.

Walsall Businesses wishing to apply for the government’s discretionary business grants are advised that the first round for bids closes at 4.00 pm on Friday 12 June.
