Apply for a club premises certificate

You need to apply for a club premises certificate to:

  • provide regulated entertainment in a qualifying club
  • supply alcohol in a qualifying club

To qualify, your club must meet the following conditions:

  • it is established and conducted in good faith
  • it has at least 25 members
  • new members must wait 2 days before being granted any membership privileges
  • alcohol is only supplied to members and their guests on the premises by the club

  2. Fill in the application form

    You can fill in your application form online. To edit the form you'll need a recent version of Adobe Reader

    Open the form using Adobe Reader instead of your web browser.

    You can edit it in your own time and save it to your device. When you’re ready, you can continue to the online submission (step 3).

    Alternatively, you can print the form and fill it in. Then you’ll need to scan it and save it to your device so you can attach it to your application.​​​​

  3. Send us your documents and make a payment

    Before you start your application, make sure you've saved your documents to your device so you can attach them. You will need:

    • your completed application form
    • a plan of your premises
    • a copy of your club’s rules

    Your fee depends on the non-domestic rateable value of your premises. Before you submit your application you'll need to find out:

    You should have your debit or credit card ready as we will take your payment as part of the online application process.

    Every year we’ll send you an invoice for your annual fee.

  4. Advertise your application

    You must advertise a notice of your application as part of the process. Find out what you need to do.

  5. Display your certificate

    You must prominently display the club premises certificate in your club.

What happens next

Your application will go through a 28-day consultation period. This will allow responsible authorities, residents or local businesses to have their say about your application.

You can find out about current applications and how to make a representation if you object to an application.

If anyone objects, we’ll try to resolve this through mediation. If that doesn’t work, a licensing and safety sub-committee will look at your application. They will decide whether the licence can be granted.

Your licence will last indefinitely, as long as you pay your annual fee. We’ll send you an invoice when this is due.
