COVID - 19 Update and FAQs

Whilst the Government has agreed to reopen certain parts of the leisure industry, Walsall Leisure is still unable to open the Active Living Centres including the pools, fitness suites and other indoor sports facilities.  We can only open when the government allow it.

During the closure the Walsall Leisure Team have been working extremely hard taking advice from leisure experts in UK Active and Sport England, to develop a framework of operating protocols so that we can provide you with the necessary confidence to resume using our facilities when the time is right.

Guidance is being updated regularly so no plans are yet finalised but at this stage we anticipate that we will be opening the gyms, group exercise, and lane swimming in the first phase. Changing facilities will be limited. We plan to ask customers to pre-book all activities before arriving.

Drafted plans include the relocation of some gym equipment into other areas of the facilities and relocation of some classes into sports halls to best enable social distancing. To reduce contact points amenities such as vending machines and hairdryers will be out of use, and coffee shops will be takeaway only.

We will ask you to minimise your time on site by arriving ready dressed, enjoying your exercise, and then leaving as promptly as possible.

We will continue to communicate with you to ensure that you are kept fully informed of the necessary changes we have to make as the official guidance on swimming and sports activities is developed. Direct debit members will be contacted directly and will be given an option to continue to freeze membership payments until you are ready to return.

We look forward to welcoming you back in a safe way when the time is right, and with measure in place that will meet the standards agreed with the Government, Public Health England, and industry governing bodies.

FAQs

Can I freeze my membership

You do not need to do anything. We will not take any further payments until we re-open, however if you cancel the Direct Debit at the bank you will be in default and charged a penalty.

All direct debit memberships (including swimming lessons) will be frozen indefinitely meaning we will not charge you on 25th May, nor again until we re-open

Annual members will have the closure period added on to your current expiry date.

If you still wish to cancel rather than be frozen you will need to email gymmemberships@walsall.gov.uk  but will need to make a final payment as per Ts&Cs. Your final month’s usage will be valid once we re-open.

What happens with my child's swimming lessons

All direct debit memberships (including swimming lessons) will be frozen indefinitely meaning we will not charge you on 25th May, nor again until we re-open

 

Cash paying Swim Academy customers will have credits frozen until we re-open.

Birthday parties

Full refunds are available for all parties booked during the closure period, please do not call us, our centre teams will be in touch soon to arrange a refund.

Class and court bookings

If you have booked and paid for classes or courts in advance centre assistant teams will be contacting you in coming days to arrange a refund.

Event bookings

If you have an event booked during the closure period, you will be entitled to a full refund, please do not contact us, our centre teams will be in touch soon. 

Club bookings

Any booking that your club have with us during the closure period will not be charged, we will be in touch with news of any reopening to discuss future bookings.
