Additional licensing - how we are consulting

Statutory consultation on the proposal to introduce HMO Additional Licensing in parts of Walsall commences on 22 February 2021 and continues until 6 June 2021.  

Publicity - digital and print media

Consultation will be promoted widely using a range of methods including the council's website which provides details of the proposed scheme, background information, a map of the proposed area, conditions and fees. The Additional Licensing report considered by Cabinet on 9 December 2020 is also available. A frequently asked questions page has been created and will be updated throughout the consultation. 

Social media posts will be shared on social media (Twitter and Facebook) and key partners will be encouraged to share these on our behalf. More traditional methods will also be used and press releases will be sent to local and regional networks as appropriate. 

Flyers will be distributed to over 30,000 properties in the proposed Additional Licensing scheme area and surrounding streets - in line with legislation and best practice.

Key stakeholders

A range of key stakeholders including housing associations and national and regional representative bodies, including the Walsall Private Landlord Forum and the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA) have been contacted directly via email / letter.  Local community organisations and neighbouring local councils have also been encourage to engage in the consultation.

Online sessions

During the consultation a 'virtual' online information / consultation sessions aimed at residents / landlords will be held. In line with current COVID-19 restrictions, no face to face consultation or drop-in consultation sessions will take place.
