Mental health support for children and young people

While severe mental illnesses are rare in children, mental health difficulties are common. These difficulties can have a big effect on their lives, potential and families.

Child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS)

CAMHS assess and treat moderate to severe mental health difficulties in children and young people. They offer help within school and community settings.

Referrals to CAMHS are usually through GPs, paediatricians or social services, but there are other ways to get referred.
