Council Tax reduction for disabled people

You may be entitled to a Council Tax reduction, if any resident of your household is substantially and permanently disabled and requires certain facilities to meet their needs.

These facilities must be of major importance to the wellbeing of the disabled person, and may include

  • a room (other than a bathroom, kitchen, or lavatory) mainly used by the disabled person
  • an additional bathroom or kitchen
  • enough floor space to allow the use of a wheelchair, which must be used within the property

The reduction places the property one valuation band lower than it otherwise would be. Properties in Band A can also apply for a reduction. Your financial circumstances are not taken into account.

How to apply

Print, complete and return the reduction for disabilities form (51Kb)

If you are unable to use the form, please contact the Council Tax team.
