Social Worker JD and ES
From complex Child in Need, Child Protection, Court Work, Children with Disabilities, Looked After Children and Adoption – our Children’s Services teams across the borough are working with families with these needs. That’s why we’re looking for exceptional professionals to join us in creating a better future for Walsall’s children.
As a Social Worker, your role is as wide as it is varied. One moment you could be chairing a meeting, guiding parents or interacting with medical professionals, the next you could be inspiring behaviour changes in children and their families. Every family is different and you will find your experiences professionally challenging, personally satisfying and you will learn so much more.
We want to return to real social work and believe effective relationships are key drivers for positive change with children, young people and their families. To be able to practice in this way, caseloads are reducing to a manageable level.
We have launched restorative practice as the foundation for our social work approach across the service to ensure that children and families experience a consistent response from those people working with them. In addition, with the support of the NSPCC, we are training our staff in the use of a range of evidence based tools. To support this there is a comprehensive learning and development offer which addresses the needs of ASYEs, those workers in their early professional development stage through to more experienced workers.
The supervisory ratios for managers are reducing in order that they can provide you with regular, reflective supervision and provide you with the support you need to the very best for children in Walsall.
To excel, you’ll need a social work qualification, registration with HCPC, or be due to qualify as a Social Worker within the next 6 months. In addition, you’ll need to be passionate about safeguarding vulnerable child, believe in the importance of building effective relationships with the children and families you work with and have excellent organisation and communication skills. Plus, you’ll be genuine, friendly and driven – and you’ll share our commitment to supporting the children in our community – come and join us and be part of making a difference in Walsall!
