Using the tips

You must be a Walsall resident to use the sites and the site staff may ask you to provide proof that you live in the borough.

The centres will receive household waste that residents are unable to place in their wheeled bins, such as garden waste or bulky household items. The containers for household waste are segregated to allow maximum recycling.

Residents of the borough are encouraged to recycle as much as possible to help Walsall meet challenging recycling targets set by the government. The more that is recycled, the less the council will have to pay in landfill tax. Please separate your waste by material type prior to arrival on site in order to make it easier to recycle in the appropriate container.

What can you recycle at the rubbish tips (HWRC’s)

The following list of items can be recycled at the rubbish tips:

  • Wood and chipboard (including furniture and kitchen units)
  • Garden waste
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Food and drinks cans
  • Plastic bottles
  • Cardboard
  • Ceramics (Tiles basins toilets and crockery)
  • Textile (clothes and shoes)
  • Newspapers, magazines, catalogues, junk mail
  • Metal
  • Batteries (Household and car)
  • Used engine oil

Cemented asbestos can be disposed of at the Fryers Road site, but it is necessary to obtain an asbestos permit first from the Environmental Depot, 200 Pelsall Road, Brownhills, WS8 7EN. Visit our asbestos page for more information.

Rubbish tip restrictions

The site is only open to residents of Walsall

Vans pick-up trucks and trailers

A minimum of one clear working days notice must be given, and only one tip per week will be permitted. To make an appointment ring 01922 491325. Lines are open from 9-00am to 5-00pm, Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays.

There is a weight limit of 2.5 tonnes gross for vans and pick-ups, this means the weight of the vehicle and the waste together should be no more than 2.5 tonnes. Large commercial type trailers will not be admitted.  Proof that you live in Walsall will be required when you arrive on site.

Long wheel base vehicles

We cannot accept long wheel base vehicles (including any vehicle longer than 6 metres in total length) at Fryers Road or Merchants Way HWRCs.  Due to their size, these vehicles cause congestion and delays for other users by blocking off bays while unloading.  We also have to consider Health & Safety issues for our staff and other vehicles from these larger vehicles manoeuvering on site.

People carriers and 4X4s

There are no restrictions on bringing domestic waste to our Household Waste Recycling Centres  in large domestic vehicles such as 4×4’s and people carriers.

Trade waste

Strictly no trade or business waste is permitted on the sites. You will be refused access to the sites if the operator suspects you are disposing of trade waste. If this happens, you should contact us on 01922 653344 for advice.
