Garden waste collection service

When will my household waste be collected from and to?

Your Garden Waste calendar will show you all of your scheduled garden waste collections for the year. Brown garden waste bins will be emptied from 1 April  to 22 November 2019.  We will empty your brown garden waste bin every two weeks, for 34 weeks of the year.

Your brown bin will be emptied on a different day and week to your grey and green bins.

What day of the week will my bins be emptied?

You can use our postcode finder to check when your bins will be emptied.

Collecting your bin

We have to comply with strict controls imposed  on composting schemes. If even one bin contains any of the contaminants listed below in the ’No’ column, the garden waste collection vehicle’s whole load will be rejected and will have to be sent to landfill.

Kitchen waste means any waste produced within a domestic kitchen. It includes meat/fish (raw or cooked), vegetables/fruit waste or peelings, egg shells and tea bags.

The council currently collects garden waste for composting from approximately 96,000 properties in the borough.

Home Composting

There is a great deal of concern about the environment today and home composting is one way you can reduce the amount of waste that you put into your rubbish bin.

Composting is an inexpensive, natural process that transforms your kitchen and garden waste into a valuable food for your garden. Finished compost is great for using on flowerbeds, vegetable plots and mixing into planters.

The council has put an agreement in place enabling you to buy home composting bins from as little as £17.98 (plus delivery). To buy a home compost bin, composting accessories and water butts visit www.walsall.getcomposting.com or telephone 0844 571 4444.
