Asset Management Business Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update

 

The Council is aware of the current economic conditions and the additional pressure being put on business by the Covid-19 pandemic.  Accordingly, the Council, as your landlord, understands that its tenants may have difficulty in meeting their rent payments for the forthcoming quarter and potentially beyond. 

 

The Council will grant a 3 month rent holiday from 25th March 2020, but noting that the rent for the March quarter will have to be paid by the end of December 2020 or the expiry of the lease, whichever is the earlier.  

 

In addition, the Council will agree to a temporary change to payment terms and will accept monthly payments of rent rather than quarterly payments.

 

The Council will review this position when more is known about the likely duration of the economic impact of the pandemic.

If you feel that you will have difficulties in making your rent payment due on 25th March, please contact the Asset Management team to discuss your position at assetmanagement@walsall.gov.uk.

 

Please note that this applies to the commercial tenants of the Council only; tenants of private landlords and whg tenants need to contact their own landlords directly.

You can obtain information regarding shop premises and/or land, it is now possible to submit your offer electronically, however,  you must use the appropriate form and where the tender process is being followed offers are submitted to a dedicated email address which remains unopened until after the closing date.
Where a property is listed as under offer and you wish to express an interest please contact Asset Management, should the current offer not proceed we will contact you.

Can I find out who owns a piece of land or building?
 
We can confirm if a piece of land or a building is owned by the council, however, we do not have ownership details in respect of private land or property this information should be available at the Land Registry.  Please contact them direct https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/land-registry or telephone 0300 006 0411.
Where are my boundaries?
The council does not have information about the boundaries of private land. You should check your property deeds and obtain advice from a surveyor, solicitor or other legal adviser.
Which fence am I responsible for?
The council no longer own any housing stock; in 2003 any residential properties that were still owned by the council were transferred to Housing Associations.  If you are a private owner you should check your property deeds or obtain advice from a surveyor, solicitor or other legal adviser. If you are tenant then you should contact your landlord.
How do I put my name down for a house?

Occasionally the council has land or buildings for rent or sale, if so, they are usually offered through the informal tender process or offers, all availability is published on this website.
Can I submit a tender or offer on-line?
Not at this time but we are looking into providing this service in the future.
