Walsall Council’s Fostering team is inviting local people to make a difference in 2018 by opening up their homes and hearts to become foster carers.

People who can be good listeners, show resilience, be flexible and optimistic are being encouraged to think about fostering in the council’s latest recruitment drive to find at least 25 new fostering households for local children.

Nathan and Steven have been a fostering family for a number of years and have never looked back.  ‘We have cared for many children with all sorts of complex needs and at times it has been challenging.  However, it’s the most rewarding thing we have ever done and I couldn’t imagine our life in any other way now.’

Beginning on Tuesday 16th January the fostering team are holding a series of information sessions across venues in Walsall where prospective carers can find out more.  Fostering Team Manager Mike Gregory urged anyone considering fostering to come along, ‘Speaking to the team and our current foster carers is the best way to find out what caring for a vulnerable child involves; both the rewards and the challenges.  In addition to competitive financial payments we offer fantastic training and support to our foster carers and are with them at every step of the fostering journey.’

Nathan and Steven are also backing the Fostering Team’s current recruitment campaign, adding ‘There is no magic to it, no specific skillset, just the ability to have patience, love and understanding.  Become a foster carer, you can do it too.'

During the campaign the team will visit Brownhills, Aldridge, Pelsall and Walsall town centre to speak to anyone interested in fostering with Walsall Council.  Full details of times and venues are below and can be found on the Fostering in Walsall Facebook page too.  The Fostering Team can be contacted on 0800 923 3706 for more information.
