Roll out of Universal Credit
Many single customers in the Walsall Borough can already claim Live Service Universal Credit instead of Housing Benefit to help with their Housing costs. The ongoing roll out of Full Service Universal Credit however will change how some customers will have to claim help with their Housing costs.
From 13th December 2017
Most customers in postcode area WV14 8 who are between the age of 18 and state pension credit age will not be able to make a new claim for Housing Benefit. Instead they will need to claim Full Service Universal Credit. This is usually claimed online at https://www.gov.uk/apply-universal-credit
In other Walsall postcode areas if you are single and meet the conditions for Live Service Universal Credit you will need to claim Live Service Universal Credit https://www.gov.uk/apply-universal-credit . If not you will need to claim Housing Benefit (see Housing benefit link below).
From 1st January 2018
From this date no one will be able to make a new claim for Live Service Universal Credit. Those single customers who meet the Live Service conditions will need to claim Housing Benefit instead to help with their Housing costs. This will not affect most customers in postcode WV14 8 who will still need to claim Full Service Universal Credit.
