Walsall Council Staff Survey 2026

Emma Bennett introduces the results

Staff survey results 2026

When the survey took place

The staff survey launched on 23 February and was open until 10 April 2026.

It takes place every other year and provides an important opportunity for employees to share their views and ideas about the council as an employer and as a place to work.

The survey was delivered by external market research company MEL Research on behalf of the council and the results are completely anonymous. At no time can individual responses be linked to a member of staff — either in any data or reports — provided to Walsall Council.

Find out more about survey privacy.

Who will receive the survey

All members of staff (including agency workers, casual staff and IR35s) with an active walsall.gov.uk email address, and those who have provided a personal email address on One Source, will receive an email link to complete the survey. Staff who do not have a walsall.gov.uk or personal email address registered on One Source will receive the survey in the post or via their employment agency.

Who took part in the survey

54% of employees (2,056+ people) responded to the survey, up from 53% in 2023. Linked to the number of responses received, MEL Research kindly donated £750 to Samaritans Walsall & District.

All council employees, agency staff, casual staff and those engaged inside IR35 were sent the survey by email or post (total of 3,806 people were sent the survey).

Findings from the survey is now being used to shape further research designed to explore and identify actions to address issues arising from the survey. Staff will have the opportunity to take part in this.

What happens next

Results from the survey has been presented to and considered by the Corporate Management Team (CMT) and the Senior Managers Group (SMG). All findings are being used to inform a refresh of our Organisational Development (OD) and Workforce strategies and to identify additional actions to help to address the concerns raised by staff.  The results are also helping identify areas of good practice that could be shared across directorates.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill in the survey. Your views are incredibly valuable to us.
