Register a change of duty holder
A ‘duty holder’ is required to be nominated at deposit of plans/validation stage to meet building regulations.
There are three duty holders defined in the regulations:
- client, including domestic clients (previously known as the applicant)
- principal designer (previously known as the agent)
- principal contractor (previously known as the builder)
If building work is planned or underway after submitting a full plans application or building notice, and the duty holder changes, the client must inform us within 14 calendar days of the new duty holder taking over.
Requirements of duty holders and their competence can be found in Part 2A of the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended).
