Walsall net zero 2041 strategy
Our plan for the green industrial revolution and a just transition to a net zero borough
We want Walsall to be a cleaner, greener, and healthier place by 2041. We want to cut greenhouse gas emissions to zero and make sure everyone benefits from the changes.
Our vision
“ To transform Walsall into a healthier, clean and green, carbon-neutral, climate-resilient borough by 2041. We aim to lead the green industrial revolution, ensuring a just transition to a net zero economy, where all residents enjoy clean air, green spaces, and a thriving natural environment. “

Why it matters
Net zero will bring new jobs and help the local economy. We will:
- upgrade homes and buildings to be more comfortable and use less energy
- support education and skills
- promote walking, cycling, public transport and electric vehicles
- promote renewable energy projects
- support local businesses to develop low-carbon technologies and products
To do this, we’ll need people who are skilled in:
- retrofitting buildings
- installing heat pumps
- renewable energy systems
- maintaining electric vehicles
- recycling
- green manufacturing
- innovation
How we’re making it fair for everyone
We’re committed to making sure people don’t lose jobs or struggle in the green economy (a "just transition"). We will do this by:
- creating high quality green jobs for all
- helping people learn new skills for green jobs
- helping residents escape fuel poverty
- focusing on areas of our borough that need the most support
How we plan to work together
We will form a Walsall Net Zero Partnership with local organisations, businesses and government. Together, we’ll plan and check our progress to reach net zero.
