What’s On Walsall – September 2025

Walsall’s late summer calendar includes Walsall MakerFest across the town centre; talks, tours and hands-on activities at The New Art Gallery Walsall; tributes galore at Walsall Arena & Arts Centre and the chance to get creative at Walsall Leather Museum.

Walsall MakerFest 

Saturday 13 September, 11am-5pm. Across Walsall town centre. Free
Walsall MakerFest returns for its second year, transforming the town centre into a free festival of making, movement and imagination. With performances and experiences spanning music, dance, storytelling, digital innovation and workshops, the day promises something for everyone.

Sunday Art Club

Sundays, 12-3pm. Age 4+. Free, drop-in.

The Gallery’s weekly art club for children and young people. Meet artists and creatives and learn to paint, print, sculpt, craft and more!

  • Sunday 7 September: Who’s in the dog house? Make a dog & kennel with card, clay & pipe cleaners.
  • Sunday 14 September: Den Building – Build tents & dens using boxes, sheets, sticks & string!
  • Sunday 21 September: Stripey Tigers – Make a friendly or fierce tiger with newspaper, pipe-cleaners & wool.
  • Sunday 28 September: Stamps of Home – Create stamps with craft foam & print onto fabric.

 

Baby & Me

Wednesday 10 September, 10.30am-12noon & 12.30-2pm.

Suitable for 0-24 months. £3.50 per child, places are limited, booking essential. Book at Reception or call 01922 654400.

Multi-sensory sessions for parents, carers and their babies. Explore colours and light projections, discover new smells, feel new textures in our touchy-feely books and relax in comfy cushions whilst you listen to a short story and meet other new parents.

 

Walk & Draw 

Saturday 13 September, 11am-12.30pm. Free. Every second Saturday of the month. 

Artist Al Fawson leads these fast paced and fun workshops. Make speedy sketches of artworks in the Collections and temporary exhibitions, the Gallery’s architecture, the magnificent views from the Gallery’s windows, and the local area, including the wildlife along the canal, public sculptures and historical buildings along the high street. The focus will vary each month, therefore attendees are welcome to book onto all sessions, but this is not necessary.

Online Introduction to ‘Un-Still’ by Hannah Maybank

Thursday 18 September, 6.30–7.30pm (Free, booking essential). 

This free online introduction to the exhibition ‘Un-Still’ by Hannah Maybank offers an insightful conversation between the artist and the Gallery’s Collections Curator, as part of Art History Festival 2025.

 

Art as Refuge Conference 2025

Friday 19 & Saturday 20 September. Tickets from £81.96. 

Through a variety of workshops, discussions and performances, the programme examines the importance of creativity in people’s lives. Organised by Outside In and funded by The Baring Foundation.

Space To Be Me: Sensory sessions with Fantastic Journeys

Saturday 27 September. Sessions at 12–1pm & 2–3pm. Free, booking essential. 

Join Peter and Nicola from Fantastic Journeys to explore the theme of ‘shelter’. Make music, sing, dance and play. Expect instruments and multi-sensory props. These sessions are designed to facilitate a life affirming, empowering and creative experience for children with additional needs.

 

BSL Tour of Shelter: The Outside In National Open Exhibition with Olivier Jamin

Saturday 27 September, 2–3pm. Free.

Join Deaf artist, Olivier Jamin, for a tour of the Outside In National Open Exhibition in British Sign Language. Walsall MakerFest 2025 at Walsall Leather Museum

Saturday 13 September, 11am-3pm. Free, drop-in

Drop in to the Museum and take part in a variety of leathercraft activities including hand-stitched coin purses and leather surface decoration. The day will also include demonstrations and special displays from local makers. There will also be a display of leather fashion and accessories from current Birmingham City University students throughout the Museum as well as work from artist in residence Rachael Colley.
