Walsall’s gardening communities celebrated during 2026 National Allotments Week

To mark National Allotments Week, Walsall Council is celebrating the communities of local garden lovers that have allotment plots and grow fresh food across the borough.
National Allotments Week, which takes place from Monday 10 to Sunday 16 August 2026, centres on the theme of ‘Grow to Learn’ and focuses on the personal skills that can be nurtured naturally by spending time on the plot. It highlights how community allotments shape our education, personal development, and wellbeing.
Last month, Walsall celebrated a significant milestone as Grenfell Road Allotments, in Little Bloxwich, became the first allotment site in the borough’s history to receive a Green Flag Award. The nationally recognised awards celebrate well-managed parks and green spaces, with sites judged on safety, maintenance, cleanliness, community involvement and management. The achievement encapsulates the very ethos of National Allotments Week, highlighting the important role spaces like Grenfell Road Allotments play in supporting local communities.

National Allotments Week is organised and promoted by the National Allotment Society (NAS) annually and has been growing strong since 2002. Throughout the awareness week, plots across the UK, including those in the borough, will come alive. Gardening communities will celebrate their planting passions and the incredible benefits that allotments bring to their lives.
