An unpaid carer is someone who provides support to a family member, friend or neighbour who could not manage without that help. This may range from occasional assistance to providing support every day.

The informal sessions will give carers an opportunity to share their experiences, identify what is working well and discuss the challenges they face. They will also be able to highlight the services, information and practical support that would make the greatest difference to their lives.

“ Unpaid carers make an enormous difference to the lives of the people they support, and it is important that their experiences inform how support develops in Walsall.

we want to understand what is working well, where carers face difficulties and what would make the greatest difference to their lives. I would encourage carers from across the borough to join us and have their say.
“

Councillor Peter Harrison, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care
Walsall Council

Unpaid carers play a vital role in supporting people across Walsall, often balancing their caring responsibilities with work, family life and their own wellbeing. Feedback from the sessions will help the council better understand carers’ needs and inform the development of future support. With feedback aimed to be provided in early 2027, where carers will be invited back to hear about what we've done and the wider events to help guide further changes.
