Walsall town centre litter pick rounds off week of community action
Published on
Councillors and Walsall Council officers joined forces in Walsall town centre on Friday 16 October to help keep the area clean and show pride in the borough.
The group included Deputy Leader of Walsall Council Councillor Nicky Barker, Council members, Healthy Spaces staff and Community Protection officers.
The litter pick, which saw 16 bags of rubbish collected, rounded off a week of visits by the Council’s EnviroCrime trailer. The trailer travelled to Bloxwich, Darlaston, Willenhall and Walsall town centre to speak to residents about litter, environmental crime and the action being taken to keep communities clean.
The visits gave residents the opportunity to raise concerns, speak directly to officers and find out more about services including bulky waste collections, Household Waste Recycling Centres and how to report environmental offences.
“ It was great to see councillors, Council teams and colleagues coming together to make a visible difference in Walsall town centre.
“The litter pick was a fitting way to round off a week of EnviroCrime trailer visits, giving residents the chance to speak to our officers, raise concerns and find out more about the work taking place to tackle environmental crime. We all have a part to play in keeping our communities clean, and we want to encourage everyone to get involved.
“
The activity forms part of wider work to tackle environmental crime and encourage people across the borough to take pride in their local area.
Fly-tipping is a criminal offence and can result in fixed penalty notices, prosecution and the seizure of vehicles used to commit offences.
